We can celebrate our first win of the 2024 election season! Joey Rowell won the Special Election for County Council on April 23rd by 59.8%. Thanks go to all who exercised their right and civic duty to vote. Joey has already been sworn in, and his first Council meeting will be this Monday, May 6th at 6:30pm. Let's congratulate and show our support for Joey at the May 6th meeting in the Council Chambers (113 W. Wilson St., 3rd floor, Ridgeland).
Congratulations Joey Rowell! Way to go!
ELECTION CALENDAR
Next up will be the statewide primaries on June 11th. Early voting will run from May 28th through June 7th. The primaries we will vote on in Jasper County are:
U.S. Congress, Dist. 1 - Nancy Mace / Catherine Templeton / Bill Young
U.S. Congress, Dist. 6 - Duke Buckner / Justin Scott
County Council (At Large) - John Kemp / David Cope
Sheriff - Christopher Malphrus / Christopher Warren
We will collect information on all the candidates and share it in a separate email. This is our time to vet and learn about the candidates who want to serve us in government. This is where we have our say in who will best represent us. We must choose wisely.
CONVENTION NEWS
On the party leadership side of things, Congressional District Conventions have been held around the state. The CD1 Convention was held on April 13th in Summerville. The District Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary as well as 3 National Delegates were chosen. There have since been questions raised as to eligibility of some of the electees. This is all being hashed out.
The CD6 Convention was held on April 20th in Orangeburg. Our friend, Hampton County EC Maggie Knox, was elected as our District Chairwoman. I look forward to working with Maggie to help all the counties in the 6th district band together, grow stronger, and make our voices heard as a unified block of conservative influence.
We will continue to work to turn this blue district (Clyburn's corridor of shame) into a successful, vibrant red district to match the rest of the state. It is long overdue.
The next event is the 2024 SC Republican State Convention this Saturday, May 4th in Columbia. Our 7-member Jasper Delegation will be in attendance to vote for the National Delegates who will represent South Carolina at the Republican National Convention in July.
We will also be voting on 11 Resolutions that have been passed by the State Executive Committee over the past year. I am proud to say that one of them is our Jasper Resolution on nullification and states' rights. It will be an interesting, orderly business meeting - until the sparks start to fly (they usually do when this huge body convenes), but we will get our business done. I'll let you know how it went in next month's newsletter.
Our Next JCRP Meeting is May 14, 2024!
Please mark your calendar and join us for our next JCRP meeting on Tuesday, May 14th at Eats & Sweets Cafe (7752 W Main St.) in Ridgeland. Doors will open at 6:00pm for dinner and social time. The meeting will start at 6:30. Bring a like-minded neighbor and join us. This will be the last meeting before the June 11 primary election. All the primary candidates will be invited to come and speak and make their case for our votes. It will then be up to us to spread the word and help turn out the vote.
Republicans in Jasper County have the advantage - if we can turn out the vote!
